Today in Anderson Cooper making people look stupid simply by asking questions: This lady. It may be the best entry in this subgenre of news since this video(via pbump)

This woman buries herself with her own stupidity. Lolz.

Admittedly, this is funny—in the same way the Star Wars kid was funny. It’s the kind of funny you only get when somebody completely earnest and wholly devoid of self-awareness creates a prolonged audio-visual trainwreck. It’s the kind of funny you try not to laugh at—because you know you’re not supposed to be a bully.

Who is this woman? Why is she on national television? Was it necessary to play this one as a point-counterpoint? Because if this woman is the best counterpoint Anderson Cooper can come up with … maybe he should have taken a different angle on the story.

Yes, she’s defending her pastor who said some pretty horrific stuff. She’s clearly neither particularly articulate nor a particularly quick thinker. She tries Sarah Palin’s blame-the-media-and-their-gotcha-there-we-go-again-questions card, but doesn’t have nearly the charisma to make it work.

Why is Anderson Cooper making sport of the not-so-clever woman? Surely there’s a more useful way to present the story. It’s like a hosting a boxing match between a heavy-weight champion, I don’t know, maybe an alpaca. I can see why people might buy tickets to Man Punches an Alpaca. But … I wish they wouldn’t.

^THIS.

News stations pull this horse shit all the time. I mean… 3-minute interviews are a bad idea to begin with, let alone 3-minute interviews with randomly selected ~normal American folk~ who are not even slightly well-versed on the topic of discussion. It’s almost as if television is more interested in putting idiots up on pedestals than they are in initiating a healthy and informed discourse……..

thiiiiiiis bitch hahahaha How are people so goddamn ignorant? I don’t get it.

I don’t understand what other angle there would be to take on a story about a man preaching that lgbtq people should be put behind an electric fence until they die out. Many people, like this woman, are going to blindly follow somebody’s interpretation of the bible and draw their own conclusions based on their beliefs or what they were taught, and then many other people, like myself, are going to be absolutely horrified that there are people that still think this way. It doesn’t really matter if she’s articulate or a quick thinker, or if she’s a blonde or brunette or asian. The whole point of having this woman on national television defending her church was because she agrees with what this pastor said. It doesn’t matter if she’s a ‘normal american woman’ or if she were perhaps Jessica Simpson. Any person who is going to sit there and agree with those homophobic statements made by that pastor is an idiot, and if they’re willing to agree to an interview and allow themselves to showcase to the world how much of a close-minded moron they really are, then let them. Perfect counterpoint. Because no matter who Anderson Cooper is interviewing, if they agree to the pastors words (or along the same lines of such) in any way - no matter how articulate, or witty, or well-read they may appear - point blank is they’re still an idiot.

I haven’t had time to read lately and it’s making me sad. All I want to do is spend an entire day in my room with a new book.
